The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch in regard to a weather system now approaching Lincoln County from the west.
Forecasters are calling for a two-part storm to chug through Lincoln County, with the first part during the daytime hours of Tuesday, and the second part during the daytime hours of Wednesday. While the Tuesday snowfall is forecast to be relatively light, early indications are that the Wednesday snowfall combined with high winds should make for a significant event. The heaviest snowfall is presently forecast for Wednesday mid-day, with over a foot of snowfall accumulation possible, according to the NWS.
At least one broadcast forecaster has referred to the coming storm as the “biggest storm of the season” (so far). However, the event is still several days away, so any forecast is obviously subject to change.
The huge weather system bringing us this event is presently wreaking havoc in the Midwest. It is forecast to slide south of us on Tuesday, with its northern edge bringing 1-3 inches of snowfall during the day, then move out by nightfall. The system is then forecast to slide out over the Atlantic and strengthen overnight, returning in full force during the day on Wednesday.
