The Weatherbird, one of Damariscotta’s unique shops featuring a blend of fashion, food, fine wine and other fabulous goodies, is expanding into a recently vacated storefront on Main Street.
Joanne Moore, who owns the store with her husband, Wayne, plans to move the fashion department, featuring “fabrics to inspire simplicity, comfort and style” from well known makers, including Eileen Fisher, to the space recently vacated by Cottage Gardens.
“We are excited to become a part of Main Street,” she said.
Moore said the new location will give them a chance to offer some of their products on Main Street, while at the same time allow them to add products to their store bordering the Elm Street Plaza parking lot.
“We think it will be good for our customers, and good for the town,” she said.
At the same time, the new location will provide additional visibility to a shop that is in a less visible location.
As several other Damariscotta shops have recently closed, Weatherbird and S. Fernald’s County Store have joined others in opening or expanding.
Weatherbird’s Main Street location is being renovated for the new tenant, while Moore is in the process of hiring two additional employees to staff the expanded business.
Target for the opening of the new location is Memorial Day weekend.
Weatherbird owners plan to use the newly vacated space in their current location to offer specialty kitchen items and housewares.
“The move will allow us to put out a few more tables in the winter where our customers can pause for a moment to enjoy a cup of soup and a sandwich,” Joanne Moore said.
