A 21-year-old Whitefield man was killed in Union Sept. 24, apparently while working on a barn exhaust fan at Winter Wind Farms.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Steven J. Crossley is believed to have died from an accidental electrocution.
A farm worker discovered Crossley around 3 p.m. Saturday next to a large barn exhaust fan that was on the floor beside him.
According to the KCSO, the investigation indicates that Crossley incorrectly wired a new plug to the fan’s exhaust motor.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies determined that the outlet source used to power the exhaust fan via an extension cord was live and had current running through it.
An ambulance was called, but Crossley was pronounced deceased at the scene.
