The Whitefield Board of Selectmen are requesting a review of the speed limit on Vigue Road.
The selectmen voted to send a letter requesting the review to the Maine Dept. of Transportation at their meeting on Nov. 13, as follow-up to a verbal complaint from a resident on that road.
According to the letter, the verbal complaint about the speed limit involved concern over the safety of an autistic resident on the road. The complainant believes motorists disregard the road’s speed limit and drive at a higher rate of speed.
“Some parts of the road are long and flat and could probably stand a higher speed limit” and other parts are not, said Selectman Dennis Merrill. There could end up being a split decision on what to do about the speed limit, with some sections increasing and others decreasing, he said.
In other business, the selectmen voted to renew and sign a mutual aid agreement with Somerville Volunteer Fire Dept.
The selectmen voted to approve a new budget request form for support organizations.
Town Clerk Aaron Miller said support organizations that contact the town to request funds as part of the fiscal year 2013-14 budget process will be instructed to fill out and submit the new form.
According to the form, all requests must be returned to the town of Whitefield by Dec. 1.
The form includes fields for contact information, the number of employees and volunteers, and the amount of funds received from area towns as well as the state and federal governments.
Miller said he adapted the form for Whitefield from one used by Boothbay Harbor.
