Whitefield will dedicate their new fire station at a ceremony at noon on Oct. 15 at the fire station on Townhouse Road.
The station will be dedicated to David Dixon, who passed away a few years ago after serving as an influential figure on the building committee convened to design the property that eventually became the fire station.
“He was also just a wonderful guy,” said Whitefield Selectman Sue McKeen.
Dixon was active in the Coopers Mills Fire Department, and “one of the many things he did for this town” was to design the original master plan for the town property on Townhouse Road, said Selectman Dennis Merrill.
The ceremony will include refreshments and tours, and will serve as the official opening of the station, said Whitefield Fire Chief Tim Pellerin.
“It’s a chance to honor how much work everybody put in – the building committee, the design team, the selectmen – to getting this completed,” Pellerin said. “It was definitely needed and will serve the community well.”
