Whitefield will elect town officials and vote on the RSU 12 budget at the polls Tuesday, July 14, then will vote on the municipal budget during an open town meeting Saturday, July 18.
Selectmen Charlene Donahue and Bill McKeen are running unopposed for reelection. McKeen is vice chair of the board.
RSU 12’s 2020-2021 budget is $23,788,291, a 3.32% increase from last year. Whitefield’s contribution is $2,339,600, a 3.13% increase.
The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the central fire station on July 14. The selectmen encourage people to vote absentee to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
The 2020-2021 municipal budget is $1,117,412, a decrease of 18.64% from last year’s budget. The selectmen cut more than $330,000 from an earlier draft of the budget, deferring several nonessential projects for a year.
The open town meeting will start at 10 a.m. July 18 at Whitefield Elementary School. Chairs will be 6 feet apart and attendees are asked to wear masks. If more than 50 people attend the meeting, it will be postponed.
