A 35-year-old man faces charges of driving to endanger and operating after license suspension after allegedly hitting a 10-year-old boy on a bike with his Hyundai, knocking the boy to the ground.
David L. Stinson Jr. of Wiscasset was arrested the evening of June 15 after leaving the scene of the alleged incident, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said Monday.
Police were called to the Whippoorwill Trailer Park on Gardiner Road just after 7:30 p.m. that day by a woman who said that someone had attempted to run her child over.
The boy was not injured, Cline said, although he added, “If everything went down like she said it did, he could have been very seriously injured.”
Cline said Stinson is part of an ongoing neighborhood dispute between two families in the park about their children. Police have received a number of reports, culminating with the June 15 call.
The boy’s mother, who allegedly witnessed the event, said Stinson veered off the road “like he was going to check on the mail” and ran into the back of the boy’s bike, knocking him off the bike.
According to the report, Stinson then turned around, backing over the back tire of the bike, and “spun out” before driving away.
He has since been released from Two Bridges Regional Jail on $1,000 bail. A court date was not immediately available on Monday.
