The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is pleased to welcome local Edgecomb author, Leah Wait who will present “Wiscasset, from American Revolution to Civil War” on Wednesday, April 10 at the SVCA office, 624 Sheepscot Rd. in Newcastle, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
This is the last in SVCA’s 2013 program series “People on the Sheepscot: A Human History.” In case of bad weather see WCSH Channel 6. A donation of $5 is suggested.
Wait is the author of four historical novels for children aged 8-14 set in 19th century Wiscasset. Wait’s books for children have been student choice award nominees in 14 states. Her next book set in Wiscasset will be published in early 2014.
She also writes the New York Times-praised six-book Shadows Antique Print Mystery series, traditional mysteries featuring antique print dealer and community college professor Maggie Summer, the most recent of which is this spring’s “Shadows On a Cape Cod Wedding.”
Wait grew up in New Jersey and Maine and worked for AT&T while she was raising her four daughters, whom she adopted as a single parent. She now writes full time, is married to artist Bob Thomas, and blogs at www.mainecrimewriters.com with nine other Maine mystery writers. She invites readers to check her website, www.leawait.com, and to friend her on Facebook.
The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a member organization advocating shared stewardship of Maine’s 58-mile Sheepscot River since 1969. Today, more than 3633 acres and 15 miles of riverfront are protected.
The SVCA’s ongoing monitoring of water quality helps ensure the watershed’s ecosystems stay healthy, including its Atlantic salmon habitat. SVCA’s mapping services, technical support and educational programs encourage prudent land use so the resources people value today are conserved forever.
