Mary Rafter, a 1999 graduate of Wiscasset High School will begin work at Wiscasset Family Medicine as a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner. “It’s like a dream come true. I always knew I wanted to come back to work in the community that was so nourishing to me. I am excited to help nurture the health of this community,” Rafter said.
The new primary care provider for Wiscasset Family Medicine, Rafter will have two weeks of training beginning Sept. 9 and will begin seeing patients on Sept. 23. She will perform physicals, draw blood, administer vaccinations, order diagnostic tests, write prescriptions, and more. To make an appointment call 882-6008.
Rafter received her Master’s in Nursing from University of Southern Maine. Before nursing school she studied social, cultural and medical anthropology at Connecticut College.
Before coming to Wiscasset Family Medicine, Rafter worked with Portland Public Health, Portland’s School Based Health Clinics and True North Health Center in Falmouth.
Rafter is especially drawn to the health and development of children. “They have such a learning curve and I want to help them understand their bodies,” she said. Rafter believes that education and preventive treatment are keys to a more healthy society.
Outside of medicine, Rafter enjoys gardening, sailing, surfing, skiing and photography. She is the daughter of Sean and Pid Rafter, of Wiscasset.
