The former Wiscasset Outlet on Route 1 in Wiscasset has been completely renovated inside and outside by owner Cecilio Juntura, and is now ready to open for business.
Juntura will go before the Wiscasset Planning Board on Monday, July 14 to request an expansion of use for the building. He has already been given a permit for a fish market, but he also wants to operate a takeout restaurant on the site, which requires a permit to expand the use.
“Once I have the approval of the planning board I am ready to open,” Juntura said Monday afternoon. He plans to sell fresh seafood and the takeout restaurant will offer fried seafood, lobster rolls, and a variety of sandwiches and salads.
Juntura also owns the Schooner Inn and the Taste of Orient restaurant, also on Route 1 in Wiscasset. He was the high bidder when the Bank of Maine auctioned the outlet property last year. Since that time he has worked to refurbish the building and the property.
Juntura is a native of the Philippines. He visited the United States in 1977 and moved here in 1980, he said. He is no stranger to the town of Wiscasset, the restaurant business, or the fishing industry, as he comes from a fishing village in the Philippines.
Before acquiring the Taste of Orient location in 1995, he operated a restaurant in a building rented from Gordon Huber in the early 1990s – the current location of Ship’s Chow Hall.
The new business, Home Seafood Market and Takeout, will employ between five and six employees, and will be open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., according to Juntura.
