An electrical short in a lamp is cited as the cause of a fire at 122 Foye Rd. in Wiscasset Oct. 14. Wiscasset Fire Chief T.J. Merry reported the fire was out by the time his department arrived on the scene. According to Merry, the house was full of residual smoke.
Merry said the tenants woke up to the smell of smoke and reported the fire at approximately 6:40 a.m. and were able to extinguish the fire. He said his department remained on the scene for about an hour.
Citing extensive smoke damage on the second floor, Merry said the home was uninhabitable and advised the tenants not to stay in the home until it was cleaned. While investigating the cause of fire, Merry said he noticed that the furnace had not been cleaned for awhile and recommended the tenants take care of that as well.
No one was injured in the fire, Merry said.
According to Wiscasset town records the home at 122 Foye Rd. is owned by Richard Kayser.
