A Wiscasset man has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly grabbing a woman by the throat and punching her in the face Nov. 6.
Michael B. Burns, 31, of Wiscasset, was arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Jared Mitkus after Mitkus and Deputy Justin Drake responded to a domestic disturbance on Wawenock Road in Edgecomb.
In their investigation, the alleged victim said she and Burns were arguing before he called her a name and allegedly grabbed her throat and punched her in the face, Mitkus wrote in an affidavit.
The woman said she lost her breath during the incident but did not lose consciousness, and it was not the first time Burns had allegedly “thumped” her, Mitkus wrote.
Mitkus observed the woman’s left eye to be bleeding and marks on her neck, and dried blood on a knuckle of Burns’ right hand, according to the affidavit.
Burns said the woman fell into the stove, Mitkus wrote.
Burns was being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail as of Nov. 14. Burns’ bail is set at $5,000 cash, according to jail personnel.
