A Wiscasset man who was free on bail for charges related to a high-speed chase in December was rearrested Feb. 26 for making threatening comments about Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline to clerks at the Lincoln County Courthouse.
Glenn Lewis, 58, of Wiscasset, was arrested on charges of class D terrorizing and class E violation of condition of release, both misdemeanors.
Lewis was asking a clerk questions about his upcoming court case when he allegedly made a profane comment and threatened Cline with bodily harm, Cline said.
The clerk reported the comment to her supervisor, who notified the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Cline said. The case was transferred to the Wiscasset Police Department and Sgt. Kathy Williams apprehended Lewis at his home later in the evening, Cline said.
According to Cline, Lewis did not resist arrest but allegedly continued to make lewd and profane comments about Cline as he was transported to and processed at Two Bridges Regional Jail.
According to Cline, a particularly concerning comment Lewis made was, “if (Cline) thinks I’m making his life miserable now, just wait. I have nothing better to do.”
Cline, however, said he did not feel Lewis was making his life miserable.
“This really has nothing to do with me,” Cline said. “It’s about (Lewis’) continual poor decision-making and poor choices. I’m not put out when I have to arrest someone for breaking the law.”
Lewis “doesn’t seem to realize if he stops breaking the law,” Cline said, “he won’t have to deal with me.”
Lewis was released from Two Bridges Feb. 27 on $1,000 bail.
His bail conditions include three mandatory check-ins a week with the Wiscasset Police Department. Lewis is also not allowed to have contact with the court clerks he made the comments to, Cline said.
Lewis was initially arrested Jan. 13, after nearly a month at large, on a warrant for eluding a police officer, criminal speeding, and improper attachment of plates.
The warrant was issued after a Dec. 16 incident in which Lewis allegedly led Cline on a high-speed chase from Route 27 in Wiscasset to Bog Road in Dresden.
Lewis was released on bail Jan. 13 with conditions that he check in three times a week at the Wiscasset Police Department. He was arrested Jan. 20 for failing to comply with those bail conditions.
Since Lewis’ Jan. 20 arrest for violation of condition of release, he has complied with his mandatory check-ins, Cline said.
