A Wiscasset man was arrested after a brief standoff with members of the State Police Tactical Team Oct. 22.
According to a press release from Wiscasset Police Dept. Michael Burns, 28, of 36 Soule Lane in Wiscasset was taken into custody following a domestic altercation between Burns and Tammy Morton, 42. Following the altercation Burns allegedly fled into the nearby woods carrying a .20 gauge shotgun.
According to the Wiscasset Police, while officers of the Wiscasset Police Department were interviewing witnesses to the incident, a single shot from Burns’ shotgun was heard from the woods.
Following the gunshot, members of the Damariscotta Police Dept. Lincoln and Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s deputies, Maine State Police, and the Maine Warden Service responded to the scene.
Members of the State Police Tactical Team lead the search for Burns, who hid himself in the woods. Burns was finally located at 1:50 a.m., almost three hours after the Wiscasset Police first responded to the call.
Burns’ shotgun was loaded at the time of his arrest, but it was not used to fire on police officers. No policemen were reported injured. The gun was seized as evidence.
Burns being charged with domestic violence assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and creating a police standoff. He was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail where he is being held on $8000 bail.
