Wiscasset Police are currently looking for a Wiscasset man who allegedly eluded apprehension following a high speed pursuit this morning.
Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said he visually identified the operator of a black Ford sedan as Glenn Lewis, 58, during the chase which began on Route 27 near the Wiscasset Road & Gun Club and concluded on Bog Road in Dresden six minutes later.
Cline said Lewis is known to him through prior interaction. Cline said he was entering Route 27 from the Dorr Road when he observed the black sedan making an unsafe pass. Observing no license plate on the front of the vehicle and a lack of an inspection sticker, Cline initiated pursuit.
Cline said the black vehicle failed to stop and a high speed pursuit ensued. At one point, when the car turned onto Blinn Hill Road, the operator slammed on the black car’s brakes and struck the curb. Thinking the chase had ended, Cline said he pulled up to the sedan, at which point, he identified Lewis.
Lewis slammed the car in reverse, backed away from the curb, and continued down Blinn Hill Road onto Bog Road at which point Cline said he chose to break off pursuit, citing his confidence in a positive identification and road conditions.
Lewis is wanted for felony eluding police, criminal speeding, and improper attachment of plates. Additional charges are likely, Cline said.
Anyone with any information about Lewis or who knows his whereabouts is urged to contact the Wiscasset Police via Lincoln County Communications Center in Wiscasset at 882-7332, Cline said.
Cline said he strongly recommends private citizens take no direct action toward Lewis themselves. Simply call law enforcement and let them handle it, Cline said.
