Fans of stock car racing, rock concerts, Bikefest and even the circus may find themselves out of luck this summer season… The Wiscasset Raceway may not open.
Raceway owner Doug White confirmed that the property is up for sale, but that he hasn’t yet decided what course of action he will take in regards to opening the facility. That statement directly contradicts an assertion made in an article in the Kennebec Journal that “White has no plans to open Wiscasset Raceway this summer”. Asked how the Kennebec Journal came to such a conclusion, White said, “I have no idea.”
White said he will have more information in early April that will enable him to come to a decision about the venue’s viability for the summer.
But the best of intentions on White’s part still doesn’t dispel ominous signs regarding the Raceway, such as the fact that no 2011 schedule has been posted on the Raceway’s website at www.wiscassetraceway.info.
One posting on the website indicates that the property is up for sale, and another indicates that a lease of the track to the Ashmore family will not take place due to “unresolved issues”.
There is also a posting indicating that town permits have been received for a number of 2011 events including three concerts, a circus and Bikefest.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this story and post any additional information here or in the print and E-Editions of the newspaper.
