Richard and Vanessa Jordan of Kingfield are the new owners of the Wiscasset Raceway, purchasing the shuttered property at auction earlier this afternoon.
The Jordans submitted the winning bid of $130,000.
The sale includes more than 35 acres, the racing facility with announcer’s and scorer’s booth, VIP box, arcade, concession area, offices, storage, food and ticket booths, tech garage, pit, plus a 6000-plus seating capacity grandstand, and a three-bedroom, one-bath rental home.
Richard Jordan, a former race car driver himself who said he has raced at the track in the past, indicated he was hoping to re-open the raceway.
Jordan said he plans to work with the town and the Dept. of Environmental Protection to address any outstanding issues as needed.
“With Yankee ingenuity we’ll get that cleaned up,” Jordan said.
The Jordans met with Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith and Town Planner Misty Gorski immediately after the sale. Approximately 50 people attended the auction held at the raceway, which started around 1 p.m.
The Jordans were one of at least three bidders for the property.
