Interim Wiscasset Superintendent Lyford Beverage announced Aug. 5 the appointment of Bruce Scally, of Wiscasset, as the interim principal of the Wiscasset Middle School.
Scally has accepted the position on a reduced schedule for the upcoming school year. In a phone interview, Scally said he will not begin work until the end of August, which reduces his contract from the normal 220 day contract to a 190 day contract.
According a press released issued Aug. 5, Scally has held several positions in education in the area as well as in New Hampshire. He also has worked in the private sector. Most recently he was appointed interim principal for Stearns Junior/Senior High School in Millinocket. Scally joined the Stearns staff in December 2013 and has just completed the temporary position June 30. He was hired to replace the school’s former principal who resigned and moved to another system.
“It was not an easy commute,” Scally said.
“Scally has served as a teacher, a mentor, and an administrator in a career spanning over 30 years in both public and private education initiatives. Much of his work has been focused on career, occupational, and vocational training opportunities for secondary students,” the press release states.
Scally’s wife Margaret is also employed in the district as a Wiscasset High School guidance counselor.
Because of the uncertainties surrounding a possible school closure for the 2015-2016 school year, the Wiscasset School Board announced its plans to hire an interim principal at its meeting in July.
