The Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Department’s seventh annual Scarecrow Festival held Saturday, Oct. 18, was a very successful event according to Parks and Recreation Director Todd Souza.
The event, held on the lawn of the town municipal office, was designed to attract people of all ages. The activities included, the building of 28 scarecrows, pumpkin painting, Sarah’s chili, face painting, miniature horse and buggy rides, children’s games, a bounce house, bake and pie sale, and much more.
Souza said during a brief interview Monday, Oct. 20, the success of the event is due to the work of many volunteers, including the Wiscasset High School student council members who provided and worked the children’s games, Ames Supply Company who provide the bounce house and Sarah’s Café for providing the free chili.
When the scarecrows are removed from the town office grounds, they will be used to line the field used in the Raven Egg Hunt Friday, Oct. 24, at the Wiscasset Community Center.
The community center has scheduled special events to celebrate Halloween. On Oct. 24, they will host a magic show beginning at 6 p.m., to be followed by a friendly witch to lead them to the field for the Raven Egg Hunt. This year there will be 5,000 eggs hidden, with eight special eggs that will bring a special prize to the finder.
Tickets for the event will be sold in advance for $5 per child, and at the door for $6. Children under 12- years of age must be accompanied by an adult. The event will be held rain or shine, and participants are being asked to bring a flash light, container for their eggs, and an umbrella in the event of rain.
On Halloween, Friday, Oct., 31, the activities will begin with the Ghost and Goblin parade. Participants are asked to meet at the Wiscasset Middle School, at 4 p.m. with the parade beginning at 4:30 p.m. The first 200 children participating in the parade will receive a glow stick and goody bag, according to a community center representative.
Following the parade, the Wiscasset Community Center will host a family Halloween dance from 7 to 9 p.m.
