Wiscasset voters elected two new selectmen and one incumbent in the June 10 election. Benjamin Rines and William Barnes will be the new members of the board. Jefferson Slack was re-elected for another two years. Incumbent Judy Colby and David Nichols fell short on votes in this election.
“I thank the voters for their support and I look forward to serving the town again,” Rines said.
“I also thank the people for their support, I will work to live up to their expectations,” Barnes said.
In a 300-287 vote, the voters approved the school budget of $9.4 million with a local share of $6.9 to be raised from taxes. With the decision of the voters at the annual open town meeting to withdraw $1.25 million from the town’s investment fund, Wiscasset voters will be looking at a 9.88 percent increase instead of a 27.32 percent increase if the voters had not approved the withdrawal.

Wiscasset voters approve $9.4 million school budget the school board, won election with 85 votes, and Michael Dunn was elected to the one-year term on the school board.
There were not announced candidates for the three open seats on the budget committee for three-year terms. However, there were three candidates written in that will be offered the positions. Arthur Ethier received 18 votes; Todd Travis and Richard Hanson each received six votes.
Robert Blagden received 12 votes for the one-year term on the budget committee.
Gregg Wood was elected to the water district, and George Knight, a write-in candidate, received two votes, and will be offered the other open seat.
