A Waldoboro woman was transported to the hospital with an arm injury following an accident at the intersection at Kaler’s Corner in Waldoboro the morning of Feb. 16.
John Eastman, 53, of Rockport, was operating a 2000 Dodge Dakota on Kaler’s Corner Road when, as he attempted to cross Main Street onto Bremen Road, he struck the
passenger side of a sport utility vehicle westbound on Main Street, according to Waldoboro Police Officer Jeff Fuller.
The SUV, a 2009 Ford Explorer operated by Robert Lueddecke, 57, of Waldoboro, was spun around by the pickup, Fuller said. The pickup went nose-first into a snowbank.
Lueddecke’s passenger and wife, Christine Lueddecke, 51, sustained an injury to one of her arms and was taken by Waldoboro Emergency Medical Services to
LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in Damariscotta, Fuller said. Alan Crowell, a spokesperson for LincolnHealth, said Christine Lueddecke was treated and released.
Though visibility at the intersection is diminished by the roadside snowbanks, Fuller said visibility did not play a role in the accident. Eastman allegedly admitted
he saw the oncoming vehicle and thought he had time to cross, Fuller said.
Eastman was not issued a summons, Fuller said.
The Waldoboro Fire Department responded to the scene. Both vehicles were towed by Hillside Collision Center, Fuller said.
