A Woolwich woman was seriously injured after her red 2004 Toyota Camry collided with a vehicle in front of Ames Supply in Wiscasset Dec. 5.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, after receiving treatment at the scene from Wiscasset Ambulance, Norma Scopino, 80, was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she remains in stable condition.
The accident closed a section of Rt. 1 for one and a half hours while emergency services workers responded to the incident.
According to the LCSO, Scopino was traveling southbound on Rt. 1 when William Cumming, 77, of Wiscasset turned in front of her from the Ames Supply parking lot around 10 a.m.
According to the press release, Cumming did not see Scopino approaching when he made the turn. The two vehicles collided in the center turning lane.
The crash caused Scopino’s vehicle to cross into the northbound lane, where it eventually hit the embankment.
Cumming was traveling with his wife at the time. Neither sustained injuries during collision.
According to the LCSO, Scopino’s Camry and Cumming’s 2007 Honda Civic are both totaled.
Sgt. Jason Nein of the LCSO served as the primary investigating officer at the scene. Officers from the Wiscasset Police Department assisted Nein at the scene. Emergency service workers from Wiscasset Ambulance and Fire and Rescue also responded to the accident.
