On July 6, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will begin rehabilitation work to the New Bridge, located in Damariscotta Mills at the Newcastle-Nobleboro town line. The New Bridge carries Route 215, also known as the Mills Road, over the outlet of Damariscotta Lake.
The work will involve removal and replacement of the badly deteriorated concrete wearing surface on the bridge.
Due to the nature of this repair, it will be necessary to close one lane of the bridge to vehicular traffic while the work is in progress. MaineDOT Traffic Engineers have specified the use of “Stop” and “Proceed When Clear” signs to regulate traffic flow across the bridge during the work period.
The project is expected to take between five and six weeks, depending on weather conditions.
As always, motorists are urged to observe all signage and exercise extra caution while driving through the work area.
