Former Damariscotta Town Manager Greg Zinser’s gross earnings on his last paycheck, including over 20 weeks of unused sick and vacation time, totaled $34,833.91.
Zinser resigned in August to accept a position as York County manager. In accordance with his contract, he did not receive a severance package.
Zinser’s most recent contract, effective July 1, 2010, and his previous three-year contract, entitled him to 15 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year and allowed him to accumulate up to 60 days (480 hours) of sick leave.
The contract didn’t set a limit on the accrual of vacation.
The contract also entitled Zinser “to full pay for accrued, unused vacation time and sick time…”
Zinser, at the time of his departure, had accrued 464 hours of sick leave (two days short of the contractual limit) and 361.5 hours of vacation.
Despite working only two months of the 2011-2012 fiscal year, Zinser received his entire allotment of sick time and vacation for the period.
The Aug. 25 paycheck also included Zinser’s biweekly salary of $3076.92. After taxes, his total take-home pay amounted to $21,591.25.
The payout indicates that Zinser used less than half of his allotted vacation and only 14 days of sick leave throughout his years in Damariscotta.
A payroll liability line item in the municipal budget covers unused sick time and vacation for all employees.
