Event Type
June is Pride Month, and Waldoboro Pride takes place on June 30 with music, food, games, and dancing.
The festivities will begin at noon with the Maine Gay Men’s Chorus at The Waldo Theatre. The theatre is sponsoring half the cost to support the community, but donations are gladly accepted to defray their
expenses.
Directly following will be a free meal across the street at Broad Bay Congregational United Church of Christ from 1-3 p.m. Food is being prepared by members of the congregation and will include casseroles, child-friendly and vegan options.
Applecroft Catering is providing some additional food, and there will be side dishes as well. Perch Café and Bakery will be providing a sheet cake, and church members and friends will be providing some other cookies and sweet treats.
There will be a block party beside the church on Pleasant Street while it is closed off to traffic for everyone’s safety. This space will be used for vendors to set up, resource spaces, and for games. There will also be a raffle for a rainbow quilt. Activities for all ages include an open mic, face-painting, yard games such as corn hole, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and crafts.
The Waldoboro Inn will host a tea dance from 4-7 p.m., again just a walk across the street from the church. There is no fee to attend, but there will be beverages available to purchase.
In a separate but related event, Gravedigger’s Daughter is extending its hours from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. during Pride so that adults who are interested can go see “so sweet, so cold,” an exhibit of work by Tynan Byrne. This is also within a short walk, as the gallery is at the corner of Main and Jefferson streets.
Sponsors so far include the Wooden Screen Door Company, The Waldo Theatre, The Waldoboro Inn, Kenshin Ranch, The Rainbow Jeep and Ms. Duckie, Tops’L Farm, Perch, Applecroft Catering, the Waldoboro
Business Park, and Broad Bay Church providing the space and food.
Anyone else interested in helping to defray costs can send a check to Broad Bay Church, P.O. Box 161, Waldoboro, ME 04572 with “Pride” in the memo area.
