The Lonely Heartstring Band embodies the modern American condition—an understanding and reverence for the past that informs a push into the future. This multi-talented group of musicians is a Bluegrass quintet insofar as they’re far greater than the sum of its parts, but unlike a traditional Bluegrass band, their music stretches far beyond any genre-specific title. Combining soulful instrumental virtuosity with soaring three-part harmonies, their growing repertoire of original songs and compositions showcases not only their considerable talents, but a dedication to meaningful roots-conscious music.
Whether it’s a festival stage, theatre, or intimate listening room, The Lonely Heartstring Band always delivers a dynamic, diverse, and heartfelt performance. The band has crafted shows that generate a genuine connection and bring crowds to their feet. We welcome them to the Opera House in Boothbay Harbor this winter! Advance Tickets $15. Day of Show $20.

Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta will host its weekly lunch and learn program on Wednesday, June 1 at 11:15am. Following the luncheon Mary Ellen Barnes, Economic and Community Development Director for the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission will discuss and provides first hand insights into how county resources are at work in your community. The Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission got its start in 2010, when Lincoln County municipalities teamed up with the County to establish the commission under Maine statutes (MRSA Title 13, Chapter 81, and Title 30-A, Chapter 119, Section 2321). At that time two long-standing county services, Lincoln County Economic Development Office, and County Planning were combined into one organization. The LCRPC has two major goals: • Increase employment and income • Promote sustainable land use, transportation, and housing development The LCRPC is funded through a combination of county funds and grants received from state agencies such as the Maine Department of Transportation, Department of Conservation, Agriculture and Forestry, and the Department of Economic and Community Development. Mary Ellen has lived on Westport Island since 2003 (and Maine since 1995). She brings economic and community development experience from northern New Hampshire and enjoys working with public groups and one-on-one with Lincoln County businesses. Her primary focus is: public planning, project development, and grant writing for community facilities and services, economic development, public infrastructure, business financing, non-profit management, and business retention and attraction. Luncheon Reservations are required. Please call 563-1363 by 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31 to make your luncheon reservation (baked chicken). For those over 60 years of age the suggested donation is $5.00 per person. For all other community members Coastal’s lunch and learn program is an affordable dining choice at $6.00 per person. Can’t make it to lunch? Community members are always welcome to attend the Center’s Wednesday Learn portion of the day’s Lunch and Learn program, which will begin at noon. Come to Mary Ellen’s presentation and learn how your local regional planning commission is helping, through partnerships and collaborations with local organizations and businesses, to create Active Community Environments where people of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to live, work and play in a safe and inviting environment which enables physically active recreation and transportation, particularly walking and biking. Join Nobleboro resident and gardener Betty Nelson (her specialty is daylilies) in Damariscotta on June 3 at 10 a.m. for the Center’s Seventh Annual “It’s Late Spring, Dig It Up Now, Perennial and Herb, Gardening Book and Tool Swap and Exchange”. Donations at the end of area plant sales and from local greenhouses are always appreciated. For people who have never been to plant exchange before, here are some tips and suggestions that might help: Dig and divide your plants, and place into pots. The pots needn’t be fancy. Milk cartons, cottage cheese containers and yogurt containers work well. Water them well and bring them along. If you have a picture of the plant, it’s a handy thing for other gardeners. A perennial reference book can also help in identifying plants. Make a sign on poster board of what you have to trade and what plants you’re seeking. You can trade out of the back of your car or truck. Just park at the back of the Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center’s parking lot, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta and pop open the trunk or tailgate. Some gardeners bring wagons so they can circulate among other traders. If you’re a new gardener and have nothing to trade, don’t be discouraged. Come on down! Gardeners are generous folks. You could go home with a trunk full of new plants. In exchange for your new plants please make a donation of $2 -$6 per plant, depending upon the size (and rarity) of the plant in support of the Center’s programs and activities. For more information please call the Coastal Center (563-1363). This is a rain or shine event so get out into your garden, select, dig up and pot those extra herbs and perennials should inclement weather be predicated.
