Daily Open House at the Carpenter’s Boat Shop Stop in for a blueberry muffin, tea, a tour, and view our Olympic Rowers Exhibit – available throughout the Community READ – featuring photos, artifacts from the ’36 Olympics, and an exclusive filmed interview with local Olympic champion rower Ellie Logan.

Screening of the documentary “The Boys of ’36”. In addition to the book “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown, this film is the story of the group of working-class boys from the University of Washington, in the United States, who surprise a nation when they capture the gold medal in rowing at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. Viewers are invited to discuss after the film.

Exploring Life at Deep-Sea Hydrothermal Vents

This talk by Dr. Jeremy Rich is part of DMC’s summer science seminar series, where eight renowned scientists in the field of marine biology will engage the public in topics ranging from the studies of the Gulf of Maine to the exploration of the deep sea.

Friday Science Seminars are held in Brooke Hall on the DMC lower, waterfront campus.

“The Garden Show” art show runs from July 28th through August 13th. The gallery is open from 10-7p.m. Come see works by oil painter Will Kefauver and his guest artists. Works in oil, watercolor, goache, acrylic, and sculpture depict midcoast’s most beautiful blossoms and gardens. This show runs during the “Garden Party Invitational”, 7/29, where 12 artists will be painting en plein air at the Kefauver gardens. Come watch the artists at work in the gardens, and see the flowers on the easels and walls of the Kefauver gallery! RECEPTION on July 28th, 4:30-6:30. Refreshments will be served. Free parking.

DRA’s Midcoast Music Fest takes a break this year, but the music never stops. Back by popular demand this summer, DRA presents an Evening with Slaid Cleaves at DRA Round Top Farm’s Darrows Barn, one of the region’s most memorable performance spaces.

Austin-based, Maine-reared singer-songwriter Slaid Cleaves is described as “one of the finest singer-songwriters from Texas” by The New York Times.

Cleaves spins stories with a novelist’s eye and a poet’s heart. Twenty years into his career, the celebrated songwriter’s ‘Still Fighting the War’ spotlights an artist in peak form. His seamless new collection delivers vivid snapshots as wildly cinematic as they are carefully chiseled.
