Wiscasset Art Walk is a summertime celebration of art, music, performance, and history, located in the beautiful 18th century
village of Wiscasset, along the sparkling Sheepscot River. Visit artist-owned galleries and the village’s fine collection of boutique shops and antique stores. Look for music in the galleries; performers, artists, and community groups on the sidewalks. Meet friends or make new friends during this very visitor-friendly evening. All events are free and family-friendly with plentiful free parking throughout the village. In 2019, the events are held on the last Thursday of the summer months: June 27, July 25, August 29, and Sept. 26, from 5 to 8pm.
Led by the mysterious “Lady in the Red Cloak” with her lantern, you will see buildings that once seemed ordinary but will take on eerie new dimensions as she relives their history, and that of the ghosts that are said to still reside there. Wind through the back streets and learn the early history of Damariscotta, visit the site of countless seances, experience the haunted Maine Hotel, take a trip by the river to hear about the Mystery Ship, and more.
The moderate walk, suitable for all ages, lasts approximately 90 minutes and is by reservation only; $17.50 for adults, $8 for children under 12, free for children under 5. redcloaktours.com, 207-380-3806.
Advance discounted tickets $25, regular tickets $30. Since their formal introduction to American audiences in 1997, The Kruger Brothers’ remarkable discipline, creativity and their ability to infuse classical music into folk music has resulted in a unique sound that has made them a fixture within the world of acoustic music. The honesty of their writing has since become a hallmark of the trio’s work. In their ever-expanding body of work – Jens Kruger (banjo and vocals), Uwe Kruger (guitar and lead vocals), and Joel Landsberg (bass and vocals) – The Kruger Brothers personify the spirit of exploration and innovation that forms the core of the American musical tradition. Their original music is crafted around their discerning taste, and the result is unpretentious, cultivated, and delightfully fresh. In addition to their regular concert schedule, The Kruger Brothers perform these classical pieces regularly with select symphony orchestras and string quartets throughout the country and will join the Bangor Symphony in addition to performing at the Opera House.
