The eighth annual Haiti Benefit Dinner will take place at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, at 380 Academy Hill Road in Newcastle, on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. Tickets are still available at Skidompha Library, Sherman’s bookstores in Damariscotta and Boothbay Harbor, Treats in Wiscasset, and area churches. Tickets are $30 for adults and $35 at the door. The admission for children is $15.
This annual festive event will feature Creole food prepared by the Newcastle Publick House, Haitian punch and coffee, and a selection of Haitian paintings and handicrafts for sale. A raffle and a door prize, and Haitian music, will round out the evening.
John Bottero of Thomaston Place Galleries will be master of ceremonies, and dinner participants will have an opportunity to make a tax-deductible pledge to buy school uniforms and/or books for a needy child, to provide a hot and nutritious school lunch to a child who might otherwise go without, and to expand the women’s microfinance and goat project begun last year. All proceeds will go directly to projects for the neediest in Gros-Morne, bypassing government-to-government bureaucracies.
