HappeningsMonday, June 20 marks the first day of summer. For the first week of summer, not only do we have terrific movies, we continue our free Talking Art in Maine series and we launch our first of six monthly encores of wonderful plays originally broadcast live from the National Theatre in London. This month, following on his hosting duties at the Tony Awards, James Corden can be seen in his hysterical Tony Award-winning performance of “One Man, Two Guvnors.” In July, Helen Mirren returns in her multi-award-winning performance as Queen Elizabeth II in “The Audience.” Such fun.

‘Miles Ahead’ (R; 1 hour, 40 minutes)Don Cheadle’s directorial debut, “Miles Ahead,” tells the story of a few lost days in the life of Miles Davis (Cheadle), as he bursts out of his silent period, conspires with a Rolling Stone writer to steal back his music, and relives the years he had with his great love, Frances Taylor. “Miles Ahead” is not just about the music. It’s about what we all face at one time or another in our lives: questions about who we really are, what we have to say, and how will we say it. How will we ultimately be defined and who gets to say so? Closes at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 16 at 3 PM.

‘Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story’A 2014 documentary, “Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story,” about food waste will be screened, followed by discussion of existing resources and efforts in Lincoln County to reduce food waste and food insecurity. Presented by the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. Playing at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 16. This is a free event.

‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’ (PG-13; 1 hour, 48 minutes)

“The Man Who Knew Infinity” is the true story of friendship that forever changed mathematics. In 1913, Srinivasa Ramanujan (Dev Patel, of “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” fame), a self-taught Indian mathematics genius, traveled to Trinity College, Cambridge, where over the course of five years he forged a bond with his mentor, the brilliant and eccentric professor, G.H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons), and fought against prejudice to reveal his mathematic genius to the world. Playing at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday-Tuesday, June 17-21, 3 p.m.; and Wednesday and Thursday, June 22 and 23.

Talking Art in Maine, Intimate Conversations: Katherine Bradford

A series of intimate, one-on-one conversations between artist Jane Dahmen and notable artists and curators who have made a substantial contribution to the arts in the state of Maine. Katherine Bradford is an intuitive painter of rich, textural, luminous surfaces of visionary images which come from the subconscious or dreams. 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 22. This is a free event.

NT Live’s Encore Series: ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’For a limited time only, National Theatre Live’s Encore Series brings a selection of award-winning British theater productions to your local cinema. Featuring a Tony Award-winning performance from host of the “The Late Late Show,” James Corden, the uproarious “One Man, Two Guvnors” was a runaway hit both in London’s West End and on Broadway. Playing at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 23.
