Happenings
One week from tonight, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 11, we will hold the theater’s annual meeting. We hope you’ll join us to celebrate the past year at Lincoln Theater and get a look at the year ahead. Come also join us for the grand re-opening of the old entrance to the theater – the much-beloved staircase! We are excited to be able to use the old entrance for special events – and as an opportunity to bring back many great memories.
‘Maggie’s Plan’ (R; 1 hour, 38 minutes)
Rebecca Miller’s film is a sharp, genial comedy about Maggie, a young New Yorker (Greta Gerwig) who falls in love and starts a family with an older man (Ethan Hawke), after which things get complicated. Miller has a sharp ear for emotional foibles, and the cast is in good form, in particular Julianne Moore as Maggie’s rival, a Danish professor. Final screenings: 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4.
‘Genius’ (PG; 1 hour, 44 minutes)
“Genius” is a stirring drama about the complex friendship and transformative professional relationship between the world-renowned book editor Maxwell Perkins (who discovered F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway) and the larger-than-life literary giant Thomas Wolfe. Starring Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, and Laura Linney. Playing at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday-Wednesday, Aug. 5-10, and at 3 p.m. only, Thursday, Aug. 11.
