HappeningsIn April, for our Friday free offerings at 2 p.m., we will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare with four classic productions in partnership with BBC Worldwide North America. We will start off the four-part series April 1 with “As You Like It,” starring Vanessa Redgrave.

We will also show three operas in the month of April, which will wind up the 2015-16 season of live broadcasts from the Met. Toss in the Berlin Philharmonic and a multi-award-winning love story of a couple of “a certain age,” and there is plenty to entice you to keep the garden waiting for another week.

The Lady in the Van (PG-13; 1 hour, 44 minutes)This film tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett and the singular Miss Shepherd, a woman of uncertain origins who “temporarily” parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway … for 15 years. Starring Dame Maggie Smith reprising the role she played on stage. Final screenings will be at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Thursday, March 31.

As You Like It (2 hours, 20 minutes)Vanessa Redgrave made her breakout performance in this Royal Shakespeare Company production filmed for the BBC in 1963. London’s The Guardian recently called her performance “a gold standard for the role of Rosalind.” Also starring Ian Richardson, Max Adrian, and Patrick Wymark. “As You Like It” will play at 2 p.m., Friday, April 1.

45 Years (R; 1 hour, 33 minutes)

A married couple preparing to celebrate their wedding anniversary receive shattering news that promises to forever change the course of their lives. Starring Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay. “45 Years” will play at 7 p.m., Friday, April 1 through Sunday, April 3; and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7.

The Met Live in HD: Puccini’s Madama Butterfly (3 hours, 18 minutes)One of the world’s foremost Butterflys, Kristine Opolais, takes on the title role of the spurned geisha in Anthony Minghella’s breathtaking production, which has thrilled audiences ever since its 2006 premiere. Star tenor Roberto Alagna is the callous naval officer who breaks Butterfly’s heart. Karel Mark Chichon conducts. “Madama Butterfly” will play at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 2.

Berlin Philharmonic: The Beethoven Project“The Beethoven Project” will feature Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major and Symphony No. 7 in A major, plus the documentary “Living with Beethoven.” A classical-music exploration captured live with the Berlin Philharmonic and conductor, Sir Simon Rattle. “The Beethoven Project” will play at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 3.

Upcoming confirmed films“Anomalisa” will open Friday, April 8; “The Finest Hours” will open Friday, April 15; and “Race” will open Friday, April 22.
