‘Anomalisa’ (R; 1 hour, 30 minutes)An inspirational speaker (voiced by David Thewlis) becomes reinvigorated after meeting a lively woman (voiced by Jennifer Jason Leigh) who shakes up his mundane existence. In stop-motion animation. Final showings at 2 and 7 p.m., Thursday, April 14.

 

BBC Shakespeare Series presents ‘King Lear’ (1998; 2 hours; 30 minutes)Enjoy the remarkable, Olivier Award-winning performance of Ian Holm as King Lear in this thrilling staging from Britain’s renowned National Theatre directed by Richard Eyre. “In a lifetime of theater going I must have seen upward of 50 King Lears … but never have I seen one more moving or accessible,” said Sheridan Morley of The New York Times. Playing at 2 p.m., Friday, April 15. Free.

 

‘The Finest Hours’ (PG-13; 1 hour, 57 minutes)

The Coast Guard makes a daring rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952. Based on a true story. Playing at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16; 3 and 7 p.m., Sunday, April 17; and 2 and 7 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, April 20 and 21.

 

The Met Live in HD: Donizetti’s ‘Roberto Devereux’ (3 hours)The final opera in Donizetti’s Tudor trilogy focuses on the older Queen Elizabeth I, who is forced to sign the death warrant of the nobleman she loves. Sir David McVicar, who directed the Met premieres of “Anna Bolena” and “Maria Stuarda,” returns to stage the final installment in the series. Playing at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 16.

Special eventsY-Arts presents “I Love Maine! The Musical,” which opens Friday, April 29. Youth from the Central Lincoln County YMCA and Boothbay Region YMCA will collaborate with the Lincoln Theater for four performances of this new and original musical during the last weekend of April.

When a student has to write a report about Maine, his classmates take him on an adventure across the state to learn about the history and beauty of the state. Featuring dancing lobsters, singing potatoes, and a hero with a great mustache, this musical will be a hit for the whole family! Tickets are $5 and on sale now.
