HappeningsDependable, likable guy-next-door Tom Hanks follows up his performance in “Bridge of Spies” with a new comedy/drama, “A Hologram for the King.” See the film as part of our summer schedule of two shows daily at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., with the exception of a brief musical interlude this week with our friends from Hearts Ever Young.

‘The Jungle Book’ (PG; 1 hour 45 minutes)In this reimagining of the classic collection of stories by Rudyard Kipling, director Jon Favreau uses visually stunning computer-generated imagery to create the community of animals surrounding Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a human boy adopted by a pack of wolves. The appearance of a villainous tiger named Shere Khan (voiced by Idris Elba) forces Mowgli’s guardian, the panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), to shepherd the child to safety in the “man village.” Along the way, the boy meets an affable, lazy bear named Baloo (Bill Murray), as well as a snake with hypnotic powers (Scarlett Johansson) and an orangutan (Christopher Walken) who wants to harness the power of fire. Lupita Nyong’o, Giancarlo Esposito, and Garry Shandling also lend their voices to this adventure tale. Final showings will be at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 1 and at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 2.

Hearts Ever Young’s toast to BroadwayWith a cast of more than 50 local and talented senior members led by Music Director Sean Fleming, Hearts Ever Young will perform its seventh annual production. It is family entertainment with memorable songs, lively tap and jazz routines, and fun comedy sketches inspired by favorite Broadway hit musicals. Playing at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 2; and at 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4.

‘A Hologram for the King’ (R; 1 hour, 38 minutes)

Cultures collide when an American businessman (Tom Hanks) is sent to Saudi Arabia to close what he hopes will be the deal of a lifetime. Baffled by local customs and stymied by an opaque bureaucracy, he eventually finds his footing with the help of a wisecracking taxi driver (Alexander Black) and a beautiful Saudi doctor (Sarita Choudhury). Playing at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, and at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sunday-Thursday, June 5-9.
