HappeningsOur summer schedule is in full swing, with shows daily at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. This week, there are two exceptions: Wednesday night, June 15, when Damariscotta’s annual town meeting will take place at the theater, and Thursday night, June 16, when we will host a special free event by the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. We hope you’ll join us.

 

‘A Hologram for the King’ (R; 1 hour, 38 minutes)Cultures collide when an American businessman (Tom Hanks) is sent to Saudi Arabia to close what he hopes will be the deal of a lifetime. Baffled by local customs and stymied by an opaque bureaucracy, he eventually finds his footing with the help of a wisecracking taxi driver (Alexander Black) and a beautiful Saudi doctor (Sarita Choudhury). Final screenings at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Thursday, June 9.

 

‘Miles Ahead’ (R; 1 hour, 40 minutes)Don Cheadle’s directorial debut, “Miles Ahead,” tells the story of a few lost days in the life of Miles Davis (played by Cheadle), as he bursts out of his silent period, conspires with a Rolling Stone writer to steal back his music, and relives the years he had with his great love, Frances Taylor. Not just about the music, the film deals with life’s questions about who we are, what we want to say, and how to say it. Playing at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday-Tuesday, June 10-14, and at 3 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, June 15 and 16.

 

Annual town meetingDamariscotta’s annual town meeting will take place at the theater at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 15.

 

‘Just Eat It’The 2014 documentary “Just Eat It” is about food waste. The screening of the 74-minute movie will be followed by a discussion of existing resources and efforts in Lincoln County to reduce food waste and food insecurity. Playing at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 16. This is a free event.
