The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta plans a storewide half-price sale for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
In announcing the sale, Rosie Bensen, co-manager of the shop, said that the shop will be open on New Year’s Day for the first time, also from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We have thousands of books at half price that would make wonderful gifts,” Bensen said. “And on New Year’s Day, after the hullabaloo of the holidays is over, we invite customers to come in and relax by the fireplace, enjoy our views of the river, and browse our collection. Our generous donors leave books for us every day, so even after holiday shopping, our shelves will be well-stocked.”
Besides hardcover and paperback books, the shop offers music on CDs, movies on DVD and VCR, audiobooks, and puzzles.
The book shop, located at 17 Backstreet Landing, Damariscotta, is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open on Thursday until 6 p.m. For the holidays, it will also be open Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., through Dec. 30. On Christmas Eve, it will stay open until 6 p.m.
The shop will close for Christmas Day, but will otherwise be open every day during the holidays, then for regular hours throughout the winter with no seasonal break.
The book shop provides major funding for the programs and collection of Skidompha Library. All items are donated; all staff members are volunteers. Donations may be left at the shop whenever a volunteer is there to receive them.
