Rep. Mick Devin, D-Newcastle, and former State Sen. Chris Johnson will speak at a Mother’s Day Eve spaghetti supper to be held on Saturday, May 13 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Lincoln County Democratic Committee. To honor all of our mothers, Devin and Johnson will speak about their mothers and tell us about the ways that they were influenced by them in their political lives.
“The most important things in life I learned from my mom is how to get along with people and have good relationships,” said Johnson. “It began with the Golden Rule, to be kind, and take care of your siblings and others, and trying to look at things from the other person’s perspective before you leap to judgment.
“She taught me to appreciate reading and learning, to enjoy not only eating but cooking and being creative, to sew, and to pick up my room. Although that last one is a work in progress, as is most of life,” Johnson said. “Who my mom taught me to be is why I enjoyed working in the Legislature. I got to listen and put myself in the other person’s shoes. I got to learn about new things to better understand problems. And I got to work with people to find the creative solutions to make things better and take care of others.
“Mom’s lessons were all about what today’s world needs most of all — compassion, understanding, and creating good things,” said Johnson. “Thanks, Mom.”
The public is invited to come and hear more from Johnson and Devin because Mom isn’t just about apple pie anymore — she’s running the orchard, pruning the trees, lobbying for farmers’ issues, and getting politically active by making calls, sending letters, and attending rallies to make her voice heard. The event will celebrate mothers and all women, like “Mama Mia” Ellie Taylor, on the eve of Mother’s Day. She and Sandra Rumery will be cooking so everyone can enjoy a tasty dinner and a fun time. On the menu will be: spaghetti and meatballs or gluten-free veggie balls, Borealis bread, salad, punch, coffee, and apple-based desserts. The cost for adults is $12, children ages -12 are $6, children under 5 are free, and a family of four is $30.
The event will take place at the Boothbay Fire Department, 911 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay.
