Aaron Parker, owner of Edgewood Nursery in North Falmouth, will present a workshop called “Planting an Edible Backyard” on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Morris Farm, 156 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset.
Among the information that Parker will cover is the fact that the young shoots of hosta lilies can be prepared and eaten like asparagus.
Parker will discuss how one can turn one’s property into an edible oasis. This class will introduce attendees to a variety of edible perennial plants suited to Maine’s climate, where to obtain them, tips and techniques for planting and maintaining them, and ideas about how to use them in the kitchen.
Parker’s nursery specializes in unusual edible plants. He has given talks and classes throughout Maine on edible landscaping, seed saving, perennial vegetables, and low-maintenance, low-input gardening.
The suggested donation for the workshop is $15 per person. To register, go to morrisfarm.org/programming/edible-backyard or call 882-4080.
