The Skidompha Library Genealogy Group’s next public program, “German Genealogy,” will be presented by genealogist and translator Katherine Schober on Friday, Aug. 25, from 10-11 a.m. in the library’s first-floor Porter Meeting Hall. A $5 donation is suggested to support ongoing genealogy programming.
Schober’s passion for her topic is evident in her words: “Discovering your Germanic ancestors is an exciting journey. Learning who these ancestors were, where they lived, and how they went about their daily lives opens up doors to the mysteries of the past, allowing you to learn more about your family and yourself.”
Boston-based Schober is an experienced German genealogy translator with a master’s degree in German language and literature. She spent several years spent in German-speaking Austria through the Fulbright program. She has a strong passion for the German language, history, and culture, in addition to years of working with documents from the 1600s to the present.
Schober has planned an engaging and well-informed presentation about German genealogy with practical information for helping one piece together one’s family history, allowing one to get to know one’s ancestors and their stories.
Schober will welcome questions at her presentation; those planning to attend also have the opportunity to send questions beforehand and she will answer as many as possible at the end of her talk. Questions for Schober and general questions about the genealogy group at Skidompha Library, at 184 Main St. in Damariscotta, can be sent to kmmac06@outlook.com.
