The Newcastle Publick House will host its second fundraiser for an organization fighting local food insecurity on Friday, Feb. 22.
The event continues the relationship between Newcastle Publick House and Go Big for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that partners with restaurants around Maine to raise funds to fight childhood hunger.
The first event, held Dec. 21, raised almost $1,100 for Great Salt Bay Community School’s children’s food program.
Mexicali Blues, which is headquartered in Newcastle, has also joined the cause as a partner for the monthly events. The goal is to raise more than $12,000 to fight local food insecurity by the end of 2019.
On Friday evening, Feb. 22, the Oysterhead Lounge – the space above the restaurant – will have a voluntary $5 cover. The Young + Sturdee Band will perform in the Oysterhead Lounge beginning at 8 p.m.
All funds raised from the event will be donated to Full Plates Full Potential, an organization that will distribute the funds to local schools.
Greg Martens, of Go Big for Hunger, said he is always looking for more businesses to partner with in creative ways to combat food insecurity. Anyone interested in being a partner or learning more about the organization should find Go Big for Hunger on Facebook or go to gobigforhunger.com.
