On Saturday, Aug. 25, one can ride the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway to an old-fashioned ice cream social and an evening concert featuring Rough Sawn. Both events will be held at the beautiful fields of the Albee Farm, adjacent to Alna Center station.
At the ice cream social, locally produced Round Top ice cream and toppings will be served free of charge to attendees. Visitors are also encouraged to bring picnics and stay at Alna Center and take part in the various lawn games and activities being offered. All tickets are valid for round trip travel to Sheepscot on any train.
The evening concert will feature Rough Sawn, a local string band renowned for excellent covers of classic country, bluegrass, folk, and Western swing, as well as timeless originals. The band’s excellent sound and style is revered throughout Midcoast Maine. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and picnics along for their enjoyment during the concert. Snacks and drinks will also be available.
Parking for the both the events is at the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum’s Sheepscot Station, at 97 Cross Road in Alna. Trains to Alna Center for the social will leave Sheepscot Station at noon, 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. The concert train will leave at 5 p.m. and return by 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the museum is, as always, free. During the ice cream social, round trip train tickets are available at Sheepscot Station for $8 for adults, $5 for children 4-12, and free for children 3 and under. Concert tickets, which include train fare, are available at wwfrytickets.simpletix.com for $15 in advance or at Sheepscot Station the day of the event for $18. Proceeds from each event go toward museum enhancements and programming.

The railway is maintained and operated entirely by volunteers, and they welcome others to join them in rebuilding Maine history.
