On Saturday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Inn Along the Way in Damariscotta will hold its first summer social — and everyone is invited. Among the planned activities spread out over the 32 acres of Chapman Farm, at 741 Main St. in Damariscotta, will be farm wagon rides; kite flying with the Nor’easter Kite Club, weather permitting; a picnic corner; lemonade, Round Top ice cream, and baked goodies in the farmhouse’s summer kitchen. There will be a chance to meet Apifera Farm’s sweet donkey and goat, and more.
In addition, for those interested in the future of Inn Along the Way, there will be the opportunity to talk with board members, explore the property, and discuss the building plans with architect Rick Burt. At 11:30 a.m., the board will host a traditional Inn Along the Way coffee-and-conversation gathering in the barn.
The event is free, as are the refreshments. Attendees should bring a picnic and plan to spend some time enjoying Maine’s summer delights. The summer social will take place rain or shine, as Chapman Farm has several large barns and the farmhouse.
Inn Along the Way is a nonprofit organization in the process of creating a collaborative community offering older adults, and those seeking temporary relief from the responsibilities of caregiving, an environment of support, purpose, and sustainability in a multigenerational and mutually interdependent setting. The organization is currently raising funds to complete its first phase, which will transform the original farmhouse into a small inn with a cafe and community rooms offering overnight accommodations to the general public, as well as those seeking respite.
