Those looking to support local farmers and fishermen as they cook up something special for a sweetheart or loved one on Valentine’s Day might not want to miss “Mainetarian Cooking for Your Sweethearts,” a one-night cooking class offered through Central Lincoln County Adult Education on Thursday, Feb. 8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at FARMS Community Kitchen, 323 Main St., Damariscotta, above Rising Tide Community Market.
Members of the public are invited to come learn how to prepare unique, healthful dishes from the bounty of Maine’s farms and fisheries, including “Heart Beet Soup” and “Root-Lovin’ Muffins.” Instructor Lisa Packard, farm educator at the Morris Farm in Wiscasset, will also recommend local wines to accompany a Valentine’s meal. All ingredients will be provided.
Packard, the mother or two hungry teenagers, fed her family entirely from food grown and produced in Maine for one year, and shared the experience at the Common Ground Country Fair in Unity. The course fee is $44 and includes all food costs.
To register, call CLC Adult Education at 563-2811, email clcae@aos93.org, go to clc.maineadulted.org, or stop by the CLC Adult Education office at 767 Main St., Damariscotta.
