The Shamrocks, of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 380 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle, is a group of women who have come together from different backgrounds and experiences who strongly believe in giving back to the communities in which they live. They have decided to be a part of Ryan’s Case for Smiles, a nationwide nonprofit group dedicated to creating beautiful, colorful pillowcases that are donated to local hospitals for children with serious illnesses.
On Wednesday, April 27 the Shamrocks will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the church’s parish hall to create some cheerful pillowcases that they hope will brighten the day of sick children and their families. They are planning a fun-filled pillowcase-making event and everyone can help. Sewing skills are not necessary as people are needed to help with ironing and to bag the pillowcases when completed.
There will be music, snacks, and friendship to create a festive mood. Individuals who will be sewing should bring their sewing machines, rotary cutters, pins, mats, rulers, and thread. Also needed are extension cords and gallon-sized storage bags. The Shamrocks hope to have 100 completed cases by the end of the day.
To donate fabric, please bring it along. All fabric must be prewashed with no fabric softener. To donate money to assist with this project, please make a check out to All Saints Parish and designate “St. Patrick’s Case for Smiles” on the memo line. Checks can be brought to the event, placed in the collection, or mailed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 380 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle, ME 04553.
