Lindsey Beth Currier, a mountain-bike skills coach, is offering a mountain bike skills clinic on the trails behind Oxbow Brewing Co. in Newcastle on Friday, July 14 from 3-4:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to mountain bike or how to take their current skills to the next level with a co-ed clinic designed for men and women 16 years old and up who have at least one year of cycling experience. The class is also great for more experienced riders who have no or very little skills-training experience.
The fee for the clinic is $79, which includes 90 minutes of coaching with Currier on the Oxbow Brewing Co. trails. She will teach body position and other foundation skills to improve balance and traction; proper braking methods to prevent skidding and going over the bars; techniques for slow, high speed, flat, and berm corners; and how to lift the front wheel and ride off a small drop.
Currier has been coaching mountain bike skills camps since 2012. A mountain biker since the late 1990s, she grew up in New England and migrated to Northern California in 2005 to follow her mountain biking dreams. She has taught women at many world-class mountain bike destinations.

After the clinic, the Burgers & Freys food truck will be on hand serving up delicious, locally sourced food that pairs well with Oxbow’s fresh farmhouse ales. There will also be live music from Zesty, a local band from Newcastle.
Zesty has its origins in a series of one-on-one jam sessions between different combinations of the four band members, as well as a series of collective jam sessions performed at open mic nights at Schooner Landing and the Oysterhead Lounge at Newcastle Publick House during summer 2016. Later that year, the band congregated one night under a Westport roof and decided on a name, and Zesty was born.
Oxbow Brewing Co.’s farmhouse brewery is located on 18 acres in Newcastle, at 274 Jones Woods Road. The tasting room is open seven days a week and from noon-9 p.m. on Food Truck Fridays. Parking is limited so carpooling is encouraged. For more information, go to oxbowbeer.com.
