Penobscot Language School, an established learning institute in Rockland, will offer French and Italian classes in Damariscotta starting the week of Sept. 19. All classes will be held at the Damariscotta Baptist Church, at 4 Bristol Road, in the center of town.
French courses include Decouvrez le Francais for beginners, Reveillez Votre Francais for advanced beginners and those who want to brush up on their rusty French skills, and Vive le Francais for intermediate-level learners. Experienced instructor Margot Stiassni is a graduate of French literature at both Williams College and Stanford University.
Italian classes will be offered on Tuesdays, with beginners and advanced beginners from 9:30-11 a.m., and intermediate from 11:15-12:45 p.m. Instructor Helena Gagliano is a native of Sicily. Gagliano graduated from the University of Florence in Tuscany with a degree in foreign languages and literature. She served as a translator and interpreter in Italy and now works as a certified court interpreter and Italian instructor. In addition to Italian, Gagliano is fluent in Swedish, French, and English.
