On Saturday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m., the Pemaquid Watershed Association Paddlers will paddle to Hungry Island in Muscongus Sound in Waldoboro. Advisory: This trip involves open ocean paddling.
Directions: From Damariscotta, take Route 1 north to Route 32 south in Waldoboro at Hannaford Supermarket. Go right down Route 32 approximately 2.5 miles to Dutch Neck Road on the left. Follow Dutch Neck Road 2.8 miles to a “Boat Landing” sign on the left just prior to the Osborn Finch Preserve. Turn left and the parking area will be on the right a short distance down the road. Park in back. The paddle duration is three hours; there is no restroom facility. A picnic lunch, which one should bring, will be eaten on Hungry Island. Paddle leaders: Garth and Michael.
All paddles are free and open to the public. Paddlers must supply their own kayak, wear a life jacket, and provide appropriate safety gear, including drinking water. All paddlers must have a complete, signed standard release form on file with PWA or complete one at the time of the paddle. The forms will be available from the paddle leader or at pemaquidwatershed.org/water/pwa-paddlers. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All paddlers participating in PWA trips are responsible for their own safety and each participant should determine in advance if conditions are suitable for their skill level.
The Saturday paddle will be held rain or shine except for extreme weather conditions and will be automatically rescheduled for the following Sunday if necessary. Additional information and the entire season schedule for all trips are listed at pemaquidwatershed.org. For further questions, call Peter Lawrence at 563-3104 for Saturday paddles.
