On Saturday, Sept. 16 at 9 a.m., the Pemaquid Watershed Association Paddlers will paddle from Rockport Harbor to Camden Harbor. Advisory: This trip involves open ocean paddling. The use of a paddle skirt is highly recommended. Directions: From Damariscotta, take Route 1 north, turning left onto Route 90/Camden Road. At the light crossing Route 1, continue straight for a quarter-mile, turning left at the “T.” Rockport Marine Park, the put-in location, is less than a quarter-mile on the right. There is no right turn into the park, so one will have to turn around at the next left before the bridge. This is a shuttle trip: park at the marine park and be brought back by the trip leader from Camden (two miles) after lunch at a Camden area restaurant. The trip leader will arrange shuttle transportation. Restrooms are available at both ends. The trip duration is 2 1/2 hours of open ocean paddling. The paddle leader is Michael.
All paddles are free and open to the public. Paddlers must supply their own kayak, wear a life jacket, and provide appropriate safety gear, including drinking water. All paddlers must have a complete, signed standard release form on file with PWA or complete one at the time of the paddle. The forms will be available from the paddle leader or at pemaquidwatershed.org/water/pwa-paddlers. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All paddlers participating in PWA trips are responsible for their own safety and each participant should determine in advance if conditions are suitable for their skill level. The Saturday paddle will be held rain or shine except for extreme weather conditions and will be automatically rescheduled for the following Sunday if necessary.
