On Saturday, Sept. 8 at 9:30 a.m., the Pemaquid Watershed Association Paddlers will be kayaking to Indiantown, Powderhorn, and Spectacle islands from Trevett. The paddle duration is approximately 2 1/2 hours and is appropriate for intermediate paddlers. Public restrooms are available; an optional lunch can be had at the Trevett Country Store.
Directions from Damariscotta: Take Route 27 south from Route 1 in Edgecomb to the roundabout in Boothbay. Take the immediate right off the roundabout and follow the signs for Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (Barters Island Road). Continue past Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens to the Knickercane boat launch.
All paddles are free and open to the public. Paddlers must supply their own kayak and paddle, wear a personal flotation device, and carry their own safety gear and medications, including water. All paddlers must have a completed and signed the PWA Paddlers release form or complete one at the time of the paddle; forms are available online at pemaquidwatershed.org/water/pwa-paddlers and from the paddle leader.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Paddlers are responsible for their own safety and should determine in advance if conditions are suitable for their skill level. The paddle will be held rain or shine. If weather conditions are extreme, the decision to cancel will be made at the launch site.
