Celebrate that “most wonderful time of year” for parents — back-to-school season — as Science of Parenthood Live! brings its Back to School Comedy Tour to Maine in August, making stops in Damariscotta, Augusta, and Bangor. Described as “pure fun for grownups lucky enough to have found a babysitter for the night,” Science of Parenthood Live! features “parenting snarkologist” Norine Dworkin-McDaniel, co-creator of the humor site Science of Parenthood and co-author of the award-winning book, “Science of Parenthood: Thoroughly Unscientific Explanations for Utterly Baffling Parenting Situations.”
On Monday, Aug. 7, Dworkin-McDaniel will sign books at 1 p.m. at Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop, 158 Main St., Damariscotta. On Tuesday, Aug. 8, the Science of Parenthood Live! Back to School Comedy Tour will take place at 10 a.m. at Skidompha Library, 184 Main St., Damariscotta.
Both events are free.
The Science of Parenthood Live! Back to School Comedy Tour is a must-see show for parents who’ve despaired of ever sleeping, showering, or excavating their living room from layers of plastic toys again. It is a feisty mix of stand-up comedy, storytelling, and select readings that offers a sidesplittingly funny perspective on such pressing parental conundrums as:
– Why do kids grow up so fast, but Candy Land drags on so slowly?
– Why must children sleep perpendicular to any adult lying next to them?
– Are earplugs an acceptable baby shower gift?
– Exactly how many tequila shots does it take to get through an episode of “Caillou”?
All shows include a post-performance meet-and-greet and book-signing.
The Science of Parenthood Live! Back to School Comedy Tour is presented as part of Skidompha Library’s Chats with Champions series.
